The Geology and Palaeo-Environments of the Khewra Formation, an Oil Reservoir, exposed, in the Salt Range, Punjab, Pakistan

Title: The Geology and Palaeo-Environments of the Khewra Formation, an Oil Reservoir, exposed, in the Salt Range, Punjab, Pakistan
Authors: Baqri, DR. Syed Rafiq-Ul-Hassan
Abstract: This book provides an excellent example of the geological field observations supported by the laboratory investigations. The lithology, types of bedding, the colour of the beds observed in the field, thickness of the beds and the units, measured in the field can be used to estimate the oil reserves in a Unit or in a Formation. The laboratory investigations, using sieves for the grain size analyses and the petrographic studies in thin sections under microscope further support the field observations and help in the interpretation of the particle shape, diagenetic changes and types of porosity. The X-ray diffraction studies help in recognizing the fine grained clay minerals and oxides of iron, generally found as cementing materials in most of these sandstones and siltstones.
The information about the cementing materials is highly useful in conducting the acid jobs in a defined reservoir rock drilled in an oil well. The types of the clays and clay minerals also help to predict the shallowing or deepening of a depositional Basin. This book is based on the Final Technical Report No-C-PMNH EARTH (30) on Mineralogy and geochemistry of the Cambrian Formations in Salt Range, Volume-1 (Khewra Sandstone) Submitted by Dr. Syed Rafiqul Hassan Baqri, Princial Investigator / Director Earth Sciences Division, PMNH, to Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF).

Authors: PASTIC
Abstract: The International Conference on Extreme Weather Events: Impacts and Responses (ICEWE-2026), held on 3–4 February 2026 at Abbottabad University of Science & Technology (AUST), Havelian, Pakistan, provided a multidisciplinary platform for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and industry experts to address the growing challenges posed by extreme weather events under changing climatic conditions. The conference focused on emerging issues such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, glacier melting, water resource management, disaster risk reduction, climate-resilient infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, public health, and environmental governance. Through keynote lectures, technical sessions, and poster presentations, participants shared innovative research findings and practical strategies to enhance resilience, adaptation, and preparedness. ICEWE-2026 fostered collaboration among academic institutions, government organizations, and development partners, promoting evidence-based policies and sustainable solutions to strengthen climate resilience and reduce the socioeconomic impacts of extreme weather events in Pakistan and beyond.

Authors: PASTIC
Abstract: The 1st International Conference on Recent Advances in Zoology in the Era of Climate Change (RAZECC-2026), organized by the Department of Basic and Applied Zoology, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal, Dir Upper, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, was held on May 4–5, 2026. Centered on the theme "Recent Developments in Zoology under Climate Change," the conference provided a dynamic platform for researchers, academicians, students, and industry experts to exchange knowledge and present innovative research in zoology and life sciences. The two-day event featured keynote lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions, attracting over 100 participants and approximately 300 abstract submissions, of which 150 were selected for publication in the conference proceedings. RAZECC-2026 fostered scientific collaboration, promoted interdisciplinary research, and strengthened the culture of science and innovation in Pakistan.

Title: BOOK OF ABSTRACTS: 7th International Conference on Sustainability in Process Industry
Authors: PASTIC
Abstract: Sustainability has become a global imperative amid increasing environmental challenges, resource constraints, and industrial transformation. The 7th International Conference on Sustainability in Process Industry (SPI-2026), organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar on February 9–10, 2026, provides an international platform for researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and policymakers to share innovative research and sustainable solutions for process industries. Building on the success of six previous conferences since 2012, SPI-2026 promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in resource efficiency, cleaner production, recycling, renewable technologies, and environmental protection. The conference reaffirms UET Peshawar's commitment to advancing scientific research, fostering innovation, and supporting sustainable industrial development in Pakistan and beyond.
