EFFECT OF NPK ON DISEASE COMPLEX OF PAPAYA CAUSED BY MELOIDOGYNE INCOGNITA AND FUSARIUM SOLANI

Title: EFFECT OF NPK ON DISEASE COMPLEX OF PAPAYA CAUSED BY MELOIDOGYNE INCOGNITA AND FUSARIUM SOLANI
Authors: KHAN, TABREIZ A.; KHAN, SHABANA T.
Abstract: Inoculation of Meloidogyne incognita and/or Fusarium solani caused maximum reduction in plant growth. Application of double dose of NPK fertilizers showed great improvement in plant growth when infested with either M. incognita and/or F. solani. Root-rot caused by F. solani significantly decreased by the application of different doses of NPK fertilizers. An increase in N reduced the reproduction factor and number of galls whereas increase in the dose of either P or K enhanced the reproduction factor and number of galls.

Title: OCCURRENCE AND HOST ASSOCIATION OF LONGIDORID AND TRICHODORID NEMATODES IN PAKISTAN
Authors: M.A. MAQBOOL; K. NASIRA
Abstract: Maqbool (1992) and Nasira & Maqbool (1993) listed a number of nematode species belonging to the group Longidoridae and Trichodoridae from Pakistan. Besides, Nasira et al., (1993), Nasira & Maqbool (1994a), Nasira & Maqbool (1994b) described Paralongidorus lemoni Nasira & Maqbool, 1994;Paratrichodorus psidii Nasira & Maqbool, 1994; Paratrichodorus faisalabadensis Nasira & Maqbool, 1994;Xiphinema cynodontis Nasira & Maqbool, 1994 while Paralongidorus major Verma, 1973; Paratrichodorus mirzai (Siddiqi, 1960) Siddiqi, 1974 and P. renifer Siddiqi, 1974 have been newly recorded for the first time in Pakistan.

FIVE KNOWN NEMATODE SPECIES RECORDED FROM BANANA IN PAKISTAN

Title: FIVE KNOWN NEMATODE SPECIES RECORDED FROM BANANA IN PAKISTAN
Authors: K. NASIRA; K. FIROZA; M.A. MAQBOOL
Abstract: During the year 1990-92 many surveys of banana orchards in Thatta, Badin, Mirpursakro, Hyderabad and Karachi of Sindh were conducted and soil and root samples were collected. The analysis of these samples revealed the presence of a wide variety of soil nematodes in high population. A few of the species encountered were recorded earlier (Saeed & Ashrafi, 1973; Saeed et al., 1976; Saeed et al., 1979; Maqbool, 1984; Maqbool & Ghazala, 1984 and Anwar, 1991) from banana orchards and were found to be detrimental to crop
production which include burrowing nematode (Radopholus similis), root knot nematode (Meloidogynesp.), spiral nematode (Helicotylenchus multicinctus) and reniform nematode (Rotylenchulus reniformis). In addition to these, five nematode species were recovered for the first time from banana field. These known species belong to spiral and stunt nematode viz., Helicotylenchus arachisi, H. falcatus, H. macronatus, Tylenchorhynchus brivilineatus and T. rosei. These species are recorded on banana for the first time in Pakistan.

EFFECT OF MELOIDOGYNE INCOGNITA ON COLONIZATION OF RHIZOCTONIA SOLANI ON MUNG BEAN ROOTS

Title: EFFECT OF MELOIDOGYNE INCOGNITA ON COLONIZATION OF RHIZOCTONIA SOLANI ON MUNG BEAN ROOTS
Authors: SALEEM SHAHZAD; ABDUL GHAFFAR
Abstract: Colonization of mung bean roots by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn increased in the presence ofMeloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White) Chitwood in soil. Root colonization by R. solani was found to be related with population of the fungus in soil.
