Abstract: | The purpose of the present investigation was to find ont the physico-chemical nature of the lakes of Punjab. Presence of aquatic organisms (plants and animals ) and productiviiy of bottom fauna. It was also intended to find out different species of prawns and fishes food of fishes and the predators. The samples of water, plants and animals were taken from the Rawal, Mangla, Misriot , Dungi, Khokar Zar, Kallar Kahar? Tanaza , Kamjoor, Ratti Kassi , Jalpari and Bhangril lakes on seasonal basis, while from the Chashma , Nemal, Talian, Takhtpar: Kanoha and Besali onlt once or twice, With the exception of Ka Ll.a: Kahar and Nemal, all others lake0 are formed by the construction of dams. The Mangla is the largest man-made lake among those stud- ied. It is used for the ?eneration of hydro-electricity as well aL for irrigationQ The water of Rawal and Khokar Zar is used for Water Supplies and .the? water otherĀ· lakes for irrigation. The water of the mini lakes - Bhangril, Kanoha ,Takhtpari and Besali is usually used for drinking purpoqes. |
