Abstract: During the studies undertaken for the preparation of superplasticizer namely (1) Melamine / ‎formaldehyde / sulphonate; (2) Melamine / Sugar / formaldehyde / sulphonate; (3) Napthalene ‎Sulphonate / formaldehyde and their effect on the properties of cement and concrete. ‎Laboratory-scale preparation of superplasticizers in dry powder form and supplementing the zinc ‎sulphate and turkey red oil for purpose of further enhancing the strength of the concrete was also ‎investigated. ‎ Polymers such as acrylics, polyvinylidene / vinyl chloride co-polymer, polyvinyl alchohal and ‎acetate, and methyl cellulose were investigated for their effect on the properties of cement and ‎concrete. ‎ Plasticizers based on stabilized sodium rosinate in combination with sodium sulphate, urea and ‎sugar and those based on sulphate waste liquor by itself or in combination with urea and sodium ‎sulphate were also studied; individual additives were also investigated for their influence on the ‎properties of cement and concrete. ‎ Effect of replacing part cement by alkaline earth sulphates were investigated for improvement in ‎the sulphate-resistant-properties of the concrete.‎ Effect of the method and intensity of mixing concrete ingredients highlighted its importance for ‎increasing the strength of the concrete.
