Antiwear performance of engine oils of various brand names, i.e. Rimula-D, Helix, Castrol, Tomoo, Gulf, Falcon, Mobil, and Sharlu were evaluated under different experimental conditions, such as applied load, speed, etc. Four-ball machine was employed as wear tester. Different trends in the antiwear performance were obtained under different conditions of machine operation. This study also include the antiwear performance of six different grades of base oil, designated as, MVI-B/S, HVI-B/S, MVI-650, HVI-400 and HVI-100, obtained from National Refinery limited, Karachi, in the absence and presence of different types of antiwear additives. Results pointed to the complex role of compositions of the lube oil in the overall performance and has to be properly and carefully tailored according to engine/system operation conditions, before use.en_US
