Abstract: Absorption rates for carbon dioxide into aqueous solution of ethylamine, di-ethylamine and tri-ethylamine with and without adding surface active agent were measured to investigate the chemical absorption mechanism and reaction kinetics with gas-liquid contact time range: 0.002-0.02 seconds in a laminar liquid jet apparatus and 0.1 to 0.7 seconds in the wetted wall column. From the data obtained under the conditions of negligible interfacial turbulence and the Marangoni effect, the values of the second order rate constants for the systems: CO2-di-ethylamine, CO2-di-ethylamine and CO2-tri-ethylamine were found as: 5.5*104, 4.0*104 and 0.5*104 1/mol-sec, respectively. It was concluded that for the range of gas-liquid contact time used and other conditions obtaining in the experimental study, the chemical absorption process may be regarded as gas absorption with second order reaction of the form of A+B → products.
