Abstract: Summary Properties of compo0nds do change when slight or major changes in their structure are made. In case of medicinal compounds, structural changes/modifications may result in synthesis of new medicinal compounds or compounds having desired medicinal properties. In this project it was intended to synthetize new medicinal compounds by modifying the structure of some existing medicinal compounds either by substitution or chelating them with some ampicillin were selected for the structure modification by substitution and chelation method respectively,. Various targets intended to be achieved in this project are summarized below: Intended Targets A) Synthesis 1. Syntheses of metal complexes of ampicillin with transition metals like iron, cobalt etc. 2. Syntheses of 2-aminomethyl sulphonyl guanidine and its metal complexes. 3. Syntheses of 2- amino methyl sulphonyl guanidine and its metals complexes. B) Structure 1. Structure determination of the synthesized ampicillin complexes. 2. Structure determination of 2- amino methyl sulphonyl guanidine and its metal complexes. 3. Structure determination of 2- amino ethyl sulphonyl guanidine and its metal complexes. C) Pharmacological properties It was intended to investigate the pharmacological properties of all the newly synthesized compounds and compare them with the parent medical compounds. A summary of the targets achieved is given below: Targets achieved 1) Synthesise of medicinal complexes of ampicillin with cobalt (ll) Iron (lll) and potassium (ll) has been completed successfully. 2) Structure of Cobalt-ampicillin complex, iron –ampicillin were established successfully. 3) Magnetic, conductance and spectroscopic studies of the synthesized complexes have also been completed. 4) Pharmacological properties of Cobalt (ii0 ampicillin. Complex and Iron (lll) ampicillin were investigated and compared with the parent medicinal compound, ampicillin. 5) Syntheses of 2aminomethyl guanidine and a 2 amino ethyl quinidine were attempted, but desired results were not obtained. Synthesis, physical properties, structure and pharmacological properties of metal complexes of ampicillin with Cobalt (ll) iron (llI) palladium (ll) have been investigated and summarized under the heading target achieved. Synthesis of new medicinal compounds from sulphanguandine using substation scheme was attempted but no fruitful results were achieved.
