Abstract: Flash pyrolysis method was developed for drastically increasing the yield of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons products under mild conditions. The method involve the effective hydrogen transfer from hydrogen donor solvent tetralin to the coal fragments during pyrolysis. The contact at the molecular level between tetralin and the coal functional groups was achieved by swelling the coal with solvent at 25 – 24 oC under a pressurized atmosphere (1 Mpa ). Representative coal samples from middle seam Sibi, Top seam sibi, Lakhra 3 and Lakhra 6B coal mines were swollen by tetralin. Pyrolysis of the swollen coal in shimaduz PYA 2A pyrolyzer over the temperature range 500-800 Oc in nitrogen steam resulted in higher yield of Benzene, Toluene and Zylene (BTX) liquid than from raw coals.
