Abstract: In preliminary survey about Eco taxonomical study of Algal flora of Islamabad and Punjab for research project Bio-311 was carried out from 1st June 2000 to 31st May 2001. During this period the fresh water Algal flora along with water samples were collected from different area of Federal Territory, Islamabad and Punjab Province. Some localities like (1) Lotus Lake (ii) Rawal dam (iii) Ratta Hotar etc. covered from Islamabad and 46 (forty sixe) localities were covered from Punjab Province some of them are Faisalabad, jhang. Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Lahore, Nangal, Wah Garden, Kalhar kahar Lake,Jatli, Swan River, Hazro, National Ayyub Park, Rawalpindi etc. The altitude, latitude and longitude of each locality were mentioned. Water sample brought in laboratory of P.M.N.H. for further analysis for chemical factors, which include dissolved oxygen (D.O), free carbon dioxide (CO₂). Total hardness (CaCo3,), Salinity and also some necessary parameters were recorded at the time of collection like (1) Time (2) Date (3) Name of locality (4) Temperature (I) Soil Temperature (ii) Air temperature (iii) Water surface temperature (iv) Water bottom temperature (5) pH (6) T.D.S (7) Humidity etc. In this period 579 Algal species of 158 genera to 59 families to 29 orders belongs to 9 classes were identified while as 162 species of 32 genera to 6 families to 4 orders belong to class Cyanophyceae. 249 species of 80 class Chlorophyceae. 5 genera 29 families to 9 orders belong to species of one genus of one family to one order belong to class Charophyceae. 117 species of 22 genera to 9 families belong to 7 orders of class Bacillariophyceae. 5 species of 2 genera to 2 families belong to one order of class Chrysophyceae. 11 species of 10 genera to 4 families belongs 2 order of class. Xanthophyceae 17 species of 4 genera to one family belong one order of class Euglenophyceae. 5 species of 4 genera to 4 families belongs to 3 orders of class Rhodophyceae 9 species of 3 genera to 3 families belong to one order of class Dinophyceae. More than 300 microphotographs were taken of various important and rare algal species as well as qualitative and quantitative study of algal flora and even seasonal succession of Algal species of Rawal dam, Islamabad have been done. Cosmopolitan species were found throughout the localities but some species differ from locality to locality. The total number of species and their percentage of each genus were completed. Present research deals with the collection, preservation, identification, ecology, immunological study of Algae.
