Abstract: Pakistan, from times immemorial, is an endemic stone area of the world. Unfortunately, little original work on stone disease has emerged from our institutions. This project was launched with specific objectives. First and foremost we wanted to establish a stone research cell where interested groups could conduct investigation in this area. We left that a project of this nature would throw some light on the etiological factors, as reported in the literature, operative in our patients. Finally this project would set our future goals in the stone research. Needless to say we have amply achieved our goals. Besides training of technicians and doctors in research methodology one M.Phil and a MS.( Urology) these have been published during the project duration. Materials During the project duration 255 male subjects were studied. These were subdivided into the following three groups: Group –I 120 subjects single episode stone formers. Group –II 75 subjects recurrent stone formers Group _III 60 subjects Non stone formers (control).
