This paper investigates the effects of choosing different values for mean effective pressure, inside cylinders of diesel engine, on engine dimensions at constant values of stroke length to bore diameter ratio in the preliminary design of diesel electric power stations. Five different values of this ratio are chosen ranging from 0.8 to 1.4. Dimensions are found against each value of mean effective pressure at a constant value of stroke length to bore diameter ratio. Finally, a comparison has been made and conclusions are drawn, based on this comparison, highlighting the selection of optimum values for mean effective pressure and stroke length to bore diameter ratio in the preliminary design of engines in a diesel electric power station.en_US
