Abstract: Salmonellosis is a major threat currently faced by poultry industry worldwide. In poultry, main pathogenic serovars of Salmonella are Gallinarium and Pullorum. Salmonella causes huge losses to poultry industry by decreasing egg production, reducing growth and increased condemnation at slaughter houses. Salmonella is gram negative bacterium and causes intestinal diseases in all types of chickens. Salmonellosis is egg transmitted, hatchery disseminated and economically very important disease of chickens. Very close location of the poultry farms, rearing of mixed avian species in close milieus, mixed commercial poultry farming and presence of wild birds in close proximity to poultry farms have made the control of these disease very difficult. The review summarized the pathogenesis of Salmonella, associated risk factors, diagnostic tools, control measures and current status of disease in poultry in Pakistan
