The antiproliferative activity of hexane (F1), ethyl acetate (F2), butanol (F3) and water (F4) extracts of H. oblongifolium were tested in vitro for their anti- proliferative (anticancer) activity on the cell lines: HT-29 human colon adenocarcinoma, NCI-H460 human non-small cell lung carcinoma, MCF-7 human breast cancer, OVCAR-3 human ovarian adenocarcinoma and RXF-393 human renal cell carcinoma with etoposide as positive control. Among the various extracts the F1 showed relatively potent anti-proliferative activity (10.55 ± 4.19 µg/mL) on OVCAR-3 human ovarian adenocarcinoma cell growth almost equal to the activity of etoposide (9.42 ± 1.62 µg/mL). Seven compounds were also isolated for the first time from this source. These phytochemicals were identified as 18βH-urs-20 (30)-en-3β-ol-28-oic acid (1), tetracosyl 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) acrylate (2), Shikimic acid (3), 1-Octatriacontanol (4), Hexacosyl tetracosanoate (5), β-Sitosterol (6) and β-Sitosterol3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7) on the basis of spectroscopic studies such as 1H NMR ,13C NMR, 2D NMR and Mass spectroscopy as well as established with help of reported literature.en_US
