Reaction of 4-methylpiperidinodithiocarbamic acid (C₇H₁₂NS₂) and nickel bromide in 2:1 ratio carried out under mild reaction conditions, affords the Ni[ (C₇H₁₂NS₂)₂] complex, 2. The complex was studied in the solution state by NMR spectroscopy (¹³C and ¹H) and the solid state structure was determined by X-ray structural analysis. The mononuclear species crystallizes in the P2(1/c) space group (monoclinic) with the crystal cell parameters a = 8.5310 (12) Å, b = 18.485 (3) Å, c = 12.1020 (19) Å, b = 106.569 (12)°, V = 1829.2 (5) Å3 and Z = 4. The complex with two dithiocarbamates as chelating ligands, shows rectangular planar geometry around the Ni centre. Intermolecular H-H, H-C, H-S, C-S and S-S interactions appear to be present. The structure in solution is in agreement with the solid-state structure.en_US
