This paper describes the use of threshold track detectors in studying the interaction of 86 MeV/nucleon 18O ions with thin targets of uranium, thorium, bismuth, lead, tungsten, hafnium, silver and niobium. Correlated reaction products were identified and multiplicity distributions were obtained. The contributions of light and heavy reaction products were determined. Angular distributions of the differential cross sections of the reaction products were studied. Double differential angular cross sections for the two fission fragments produced were also obtained. The results show that more than 60 per cent of the light reaction products are emitted in a cone in an angular interval of 0-20 degrees around the beam axis. The central collisions seem to produce almost isotropic angular distributions of the heavy reaction products.en_US
