Abstract: Aurivillius phase Bi5Ti3FeO15 nanoparticles were synthesized by the solid-state method and investigated for its dielectric as well as gas sensing properties. Relative permittivity (ε') and dielectric loss tangent (tanδ) of Bi5Ti3FeO15 nanoparticles increased with temperature (in the range of 300–400 K) whereas reduced with the increase in frequency from 120 Hz to 1 MHz. Oxygen gas sensing properties were studied in the range of 100–500 ppm. The response of Bi5Ti3FeO15 sensor increases linearly with an increase in oxygen concentration. The sensor was found to be selective towards oxygen when tested in the presence of ethanol, methanol, 1-butanol, acetone and LPG. High linearity, repeatability and selectivity of Bi5Ti3FeO15 sensor suggest it as a good candidate for developing practical oxygen gas sensors.
